Education for Life Teacher Training


Introductory Program

Taught by Nitai Deranja, Narani Moorhouse, and Irene Schulman

This course provides a thorough introduction to the Education for Life philosophy including such topics as:

  • The need for mutual respect between teacher and student
  • How to build a child-centered curriculum
  • How to harmonize the development of body, feelings, will, and intellect
  • Identifying appropriate methods of discipline and motivation for each child

There is an optional exam on the Education for Life principles for those who want the Certificate of Completion for the Education for Life Introductory Course.

For a full Education for Life Teaching Credential, students can enroll in the two year Education for Life program offered through the Ananda College of Living Wisdom (530) 292-3024.

Sample Daily Schedule

6:00 am:Wake-up bell, energization or yoga postures
6:30–8:00:Optional group meditation in Retreat Temple
8:00–9:00:Breakfast in Silence, Retreat Dining Room
10:00–12:30:Morning Classes
12:30:Lunch in Retreat Dining Room
1:30 or 2:00:Afternoon Classes or Activities begin
6:30 pm:Dinner in Retreat Dining Room
Evening:TBD, there will be some evening classes or events.

Accommodations at the Ananda Meditation Retreat
& the Ananda College of Living Wisdom

All classes and most events will take place on site at the Ananda College of Living Wisdom. The college campus is located on 70 acres of the original Ananda Meditation Retreat and is a beautiful setting with meditation gardens, walks and hikes in the nearby forests or a challenge hike to the Yuba River. During your stay here, there will be some events at the Ananda Living Wisdom School and Ananda Village, located 5 miles from the college.

Accommodations can include a room in Happiness Lodge dormitory, a garden bungalow, or a housekeeping cabin complete with kitchen, bathroom, meditation room, etc. To view the accommodations, please visit the Ananda Meditation Retreat website at www.meditationretreat.org or call (530) 292-3024 to book this EFL retreat and select your accommodations. Price for the entire retreat will be $565-800 all inclusive depending on the accommodation you select. Price includes tuition, lodging and 3 delicious vegetarian meals each day.

Course Reservation: We require a $100 deposit to enroll you in this course. The deposit will be used towards your fee. If you have paid your deposit (we accept Visa and Mastercard payments by phone) and you need to cancel 14 days prior to the course date, you will receive a $75 credit for one year with the Ananda Meditation Retreat. The deposit will be used to guarantee your enrollment in this course. Space in this course is limited.

Arrival & Departure: Please plan to arrive Sunday afternoon, June 20, 2009. The retreat begins with dinner Sunday night, June 20th and ends right after lunch on Friday, June 25th.
