The Ananda Institute of Alternative Living presents a new approach to business and leadership, one that views success as increasing in direct proportion to our ability to recognize, and attune ourselves to, a greater reality than our own. As Ananda’s founder, J. Donald Walters, states in his book Money Magnetism:

“The lives of saints are rich with examples of what most people, unaware of subtler levels of natural law, call miracles. In fact, there are no such things as miracles. This is simply the way the law works. The more one works in harmony with the Infinite Intelligence, the better everything works out for him. The more, on the other hand, one cuts himself off from that great Intelligence and struggles to make everything happen by his egoic power alone, the less power he has to make anything happen really well for him.”

Ananda has been creating new approaches to business and leadership since 1968, when J. Donald Walters founded Ananda here in Northern California. For nearly 40 years, Mr. Walters has guided members of Ananda to create businesses in new ways, ways that lead not only to the material betterment of society but also to the upliftment and personal spiritual growth of everyone involved.

In the past 40 years, members of Ananda have created numerous successful businesses that operate on the principles for success and leadership established by Paramhansa Yogananda. The core principles of our businesses are:

Our campus is on the original site of the first Ananda Community, and just five miles away is the 780-acre Ananda Village, where 250 people live and work in community. Our location provides the ideal environment for students wanting to establish a career in business and leadership as a means for developing their own higher consciousness. Today, Ananda includes numerous businesses that strive to practice the business and leadership aims developed by Paramhansa Yogananda and introduced by Walters.

Specialists

The Ananda Business & Leadership Degree (degree certificate) and the Ananda Business & Leadership Developer (advanced degree certificate) are drawn from the same curriculum, with the exception of advanced courses and more hours of training and internship completed by the Ananda Business & Leadership Developer. Study Abroad for Business & Leadership

Students with a “major career focus” in Business & Leadership must complete independent projects in their specialty during annual study abroad programs. These projects are determined with each student and the Business & Leadership Career Counselor prior to embarking on each trip. Study abroad projects can be varied and creative, but must relate to a particular area of focused learning for each student.

Internships & Work Study

An important component to the certification process is the completion of a pre-determined number of months spent working in various business departments of the Ananda Community with leaders and residents who mentor and provide “hands on” training for students. These internships allow students the chance to experience & develop exciting “real life” Business & Leadership programs while receiving invaluable support and guidance from institute teachers during the internship process.
