“Kriya Yoga, the scientific technique of God-realization, will ultimately spread in all lands, and aid in harmonizing the nations through man’s personal, transcendental perception of the Infinite Father.”

The Ashram Program
The Ananda Institute of Alternative Living is a spiritual college inspired by Paramhansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi. As well as attending classes at the institute, students learn and experience for themselves the scientific, non-sectarian techniques of meditation and yoga and how these techniques can benefit every aspect of their lives.
As part of their experiential learning process, students learn Yogananda’s meditation techniques and Swami Kriyananda’s system of yoga postures for higher awareness. All students become part of the “ashram program” while at the institute. During their time here, students attend daily sadhanas with our institute staff and elder ashram members. Daily sadhana sessions may include yoga postures, energization exercises, chanting, prayers and meditation.
The ashram program includes:
• Attendance at morning sadhana sessions
•
Weekly classes
• Volunteer service projects with other ashram members
Spirituality that embraces all
One of Paramhansa Yogananda’s main teaching messages to the west was to show the underlying unity of all religions. Yogananda had a deep love for all humanity, and for the saints and sages of all religions. He came to show people how to achieve their highest potential, to “become saints themselves” and to see the highest in each other and in all people as members of one united world family. Yogananda’s phrase “there are many paths but only one God” honors the need for people to have different ways to worship God, depending on their own personal temperament. Yogananda’s famous Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades, California is a living monument to all the world’s religions.
Yogananda’s tool for teaching world unity was through the vehicle of meditation, and specifically of Kriya Yoga, an advanced technique of meditation.

"The sheer breadth of Yogananda's vision, and its practical relevance to the needs of this age, demonstrate him to be a World Teacher. For he was not only the guru of a particular group of disciples, but was sent to be the
way-shower for a new age."
