We practice simple living and high thinking: a nurturing, expansive community of students and faculty learn, grow and live together in the pursuit of higher understanding and awareness. Our campuses are surrounded by nature and encourage aspects of healthy living, such as balanced vegetarian diet, daily yoga and meditation practice and a variety of inspirational and artistic events.
Students and faculty live simply in dorms and are invited to three community meals per day where delicious, hearty vegetarian meals are served. Outdoor activities and recreation such as sporting events, hiking, skiing, biking and volleyball make student life outside the classroom exciting.
Monday through Thursday academic classes are scheduled, and designated free time is given each day when students can choose to study, prepare or rest, depending on individual need. The college keeps enrollment and class sizes small, so that students get individualized attention, experience in their field of study and develop lasting relationships with each other and their teachers. On weekends, students plug into service projects and internship opportunities to support the college, local community and associated businesses.

Yoga & Meditation
Students have the opportunity to explore spirituality and world religions while engaging in daily opportunities for meditation and yoga. Meditation and inner awareness are taught to each student who attends the college. Classes like Raja Yoga, Meditation, Creativity & Intuition and Directional Psychology are a few of the foundation courses that help students learn focus, inner clarity, calmness and direction. The ability to introspect and gain inner peace and happiness helps students in their intellectual studies and their careers and future beyond college.
Recreation & Activities
Ananda College Laurelwood campus is located 60 minutes from downtown Portland, Oregon and 25 minutes from the Beaverton light-rail Max station, connecting the campus to the greater Portland area.
The campus sits on a hill between Gaston, Oregon and Bald Peak road, amidst the beautiful Wilamette Valley. Nearby farms and communities offer the benefit of living in a semi-rural setting with close proximity to a major metropolitan area with shopping, theaters and entertainment.
The setting lends itself to hiking, biking, and activities in nature. The Mt. Hood ski area is approximately 2 1/2 hours from the campus. The Oregon Coastal beaches are 90 minutes away.
The college is currently refurbishing a large gymnasium located on campus, running track, and tennis courts. The usual recreational sports are available for personal enjoyment. The college encourages creativity for all recreational activities–full moon hikes up through the valley to Bald Peak, group outings, inspired student-created music and entertainment and service opportunities that help the surrounding communities.
